Sadler in the No. 38 M&M's Dodge at Michigan
(more) Elliott Sadler has officially been placed in the Evernham Motorsports No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge for the remainder of the 2006 Nextel Cup season. Sadler will being driving the No. 19 this weekend at Michigan. David Gilliland will be in the Robert Yates Racing (RYR) No. 38 M&M's Ford, vacated by Sadler. Gilliland caught the eye of RYR and many other team owners with his Busch series win at Kentucky Motor Speedway, on June 17, 2006, in a car with funding and sponsorship equivalent the smallest team you could find in NASCAR. The following week, Gilliland raced the No. 72 Dutch Quality Stone Dodge for CJM Racing, at Infineon Raceway, to a 31st starting position and a 32nd place finish. The GFS Marketplace 400 will be Gillilands second Nextel Cup start, and will be his first with RYR. Gilliland, the 1997 NASCAR Winston West series champion, will likely only race a few races for RYR in 2006, so that he will be eligible for Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year candidacy in 2007 (if he actually earns a nextel Cup seat at RYR). Gilliland has only eight Busch series starts in 2006. (less)
Robby Gordon & RYR, Part 2
(more)Officials, from both Robert Yates Racing (RYR) and Robby Gordon Motorsports (RGM), have denied that there has been a sale of RYR to RGM. RGM representatives have stated, however, that there have been talks of combining the resources of the two teams. What that means, and what is really happening between RYR and RGM, will only be revealed with time. It is standard NASCAR procedure to withhold the true status of dealings until they have been put down in ink and signed. (less)
Sadler and Mayfield Split From Teams
(more) It has been reported that Elliott Sadler cleaned out his locker Monday, at Robert Yates Racing (RYR), and that David Gilliland will take over the wheel of the No. 38 M&M's Ford. The report says that Gilliland, 30, will make his second Nextel Cup start Sunday in the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). However, Sadler is listed on the early MIS entry list as driver of the No. 38 at MIS. In a related story, it has been reported that Robby Gordon Motorsports has bought RYR, effective this weekend. As the world turns (left)... Last week, Jeremy Mayfield was released from his contract as driver of the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge, at Evernham Motorsports. Sadler is expected to be signing on with Evernham Motorsports, to become the driver of the No. 19 . However, Bill Elliott is currently listed, on the early MIS entry list, as the driver of the No. 19. Mayfield has reportedly signed a contract to drive for Bill Davis Racing in 2007, but no offical announcement has been made on that either. There has been no word on Mayfield driving anywhere in the balance of the 2006 Nextel Cup season. Oh the drama! It will surely unfold throughout the coming week. ARS 08/15/06 (less)
